October: Breast Cancer Awareness Month

For those of you that don’t know, there’s more to October than Halloween. October is the National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Every year, Caljava has a Breast Cancer Awareness sale and we donate 100% of the proceeds of those BCA items to our local breast cancer research facility. The items on sale this year are the Hot Pink Closed Peonies for $15, FondX Rolled Fondant in Hot Pink 1lb for $6.99, and FondX Rolled Fondant in Hot Pink 2lb for $14.99. 100% of the proceeds from those items all of the month of October will be donated. So help support a cause by buying these items or donate to your local breast cancer research organization.
It’s always good to be educated on topics that so greatly effect our nation, so here are some facts about breast cancer that you may or may not have known:
- 1 in 8 women in the US will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime
- Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in women
- Breast cancer is the 2nd leading cause of cancer death among women
- Each year it's estimated that over 246,660 women in the US will be diagnosed with breast cancer and more than 40,000 will die
- An estimated 2,600 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer and approximately 440 will die each year
- On average, every 2 minutes a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer and 1 woman will die of breast cancer every 13 minutes
- When detected early and is in the localized stage, the 5-year relative survival rate is 100%
- Over 2.8 million breast cancer survivors are alive in the US today
